It seems that all small towns have some type of annual celebration. In Hillman we celebrate VJ Day. It is my understanding that we may be one of a few, if not the only community that still celebrates this day in history. Over the years discussion has been held to change the name of the celebration. But to honor the first people who celebrated VJ Day here in Hillman it has been decided not to change the name. Our grand children Cameryn, London and Allie and I participated in the parade with our golf cart. I did some decorating of the cart and the kids totally enjoyed throwing candy to all of the kids along the parade route. Festivities also included a pig roast, an open house with hot dogs, brats and kids games at the fire hall, music, open house at the Brush Creek Mill and fire works. To me there is no better way for communities and neighbors to celebrate than with a small home town celebration.
